Safari Destinations
The best times to visit Rwanda for a safari holiday generally fall within the dry seasons, which offer favorable weather conditions and great wildlife viewing opportunities. However, specific timing may depend on the attractions and experiences you’re interested in.
Dry seasons (June to September and December to February): The dry seasons in Rwanda are considered the best times for wildlife viewing, particularly for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. The dry weather makes hiking in the dense forests easier and more enjoyable, and the lower vegetation can make spotting wildlife more accessible. Additionally, the dry seasons typically have fewer mosquitoes and a lower risk of malaria. However, these periods are also the peak tourist seasons, so expect higher prices and more crowded lodges.
Rainy seasons (March to May and October to November): While not considered the optimal time for a safari due to unpredictable weather and potential travel disruptions, the rainy seasons can still offer rewarding experiences. The landscapes are lush and green, and many animals give birth, resulting in increased predator activity. Additionally, there are fewer tourists, and lodges may offer lower rates. However, some camps and lodges may be closed during the heavy rains in April and May.
